How Do You Clean a Leather Jacket

How do you clean a leather jacket without damage? Keep it simple. Use gentle tools. Work slow. This easy guide shows each step.

What You Need

  • Soft cloths or microfiber
  • Mild soap (a few drops)
  • Distilled water
  • Leather conditioner
  • Hanger with wide shoulders

Step 1: Dry Dust

Wipe the jacket with a dry cloth. Remove loose dust and grit first. This prevents scratches.

Step 2: Spot Clean

Mix a little soap in water. Dip the cloth. Wring it almost dry. Dab the spot. Do not soak the leather.

Step 3: Wipe and Air Dry

Use a second cloth with plain water. Wipe off soap. Hang the jacket away from heat and sun.

Step 4: Condition

After it dries, add a thin layer of conditioner. Buff with a clean cloth. This keeps the leather soft.

What to Avoid

  • No bleach or harsh cleaners
  • No soaking or machine wash
  • No hair dryers or heaters
